Where is Budapest? What is the Budapest Population? What Language do they speak in Hungary?
Wonderful Budapest has been one of Europe's most important cities for centuries. Situated on the banks of the glorious Danube river, people first settled in Budapest more than 2,000 years ago.
Today, the population of Hungary is around 10 million, with around 2 million people living in Budapest, and roughly 30 per cent of the entire Hungarian population residing within the Budapest metro area. There are, indeed, few capital cities in Europe that influence the culture of a country as Budapest does to Hungary.
The official language in Hungary is Hungarian and the currency used is the Forint. Budapest is located in the centre of Europe and, not surprisingly, operates on Central European Time. The country joined the European Union in 2004 and has since experienced economic periods of boom and bust.
Budapest experiences big Weather extremes with record summer temperatures of 40 degrees and winter lows of minus 20 or more.
Budapest has countless world famous Cultural Attractions including the Budapest Chain Bridge and the Budapest Parliament. Its Danube views and Castle Hill area are protected by UNESCO. Budapest is probably most famous for its thermal baths of which it has more than 50. Some have their roots in Roman times and a number of bath houses date back to fifteenth century Ottoman rule.
