Where is Budapest? What is the Budapest Population? What Language do they speak in Hungary?
Wonderful Budapest has been one of Europe's most important cities for centuries. Situated on the banks of the glorious Danube river, people first settled in Budapest more than 2,000 years ago.
Today, the population of Hungary is around 10 million, with around 2 million people living in Budapest, and roughly 30 per cent of the entire Hungarian population residing within the Budapest metro area. There are, indeed, few capital cities in Europe that influence the culture of a country as Budapest does to Hungary.
The official language in Hungary is Hungarian and the currency used is the Forint. Budapest is located in the centre of Europe and, not surprisingly, operates on Central European Time. The country joined the European Union in 2004 and has since experienced economic periods of boom and bust.
Budapest experiences big Weather extremes with record summer temperatures of 40 degrees and winter lows of minus 20 or more.
Budapest has countless world famous Cultural Attractions including the Budapest Chain Bridge and the Budapest Parliament. Its Danube views and Castle Hill area are protected by UNESCO. Budapest is probably most famous for its thermal baths of which it has more than 50. Some have their roots in Roman times and a number of bath houses date back to fifteenth century Ottoman rule.
Our Budapest Guide is here to help you plan your trip to the Hungarian capital. Using the Budapest Out There Guide you will find lots of useful information that will enable you to decide what you want to do and where you want to go during your visit to Hungary.
Budapest Overview gives you an overall feel for the city, find out where is Budapest, the weather in Budapest, and many more information about the capital of Hungary.
Before deciding which form of accommodation you wish to book it is advisable to use our Budapest Map to find the location of the hotel, youth hostel or apartment that interests you. Being within walking distance of many of Budapest's top sightseeing attractions is, in our opinion, worth paying that little extra for. After all, when you begin to factor in the costs of late night taxis and several Budapest Metro tickets, it is certainly going to cost you considerably more than your original Hotel bill if you plan to stay a long distance from the centre. To find out more about the city's top sights take time to read through our Attractions section, which will also point you in the right direction for Budapest Tour Info.
Of course, one of the most important considerations of your trip is that thing we can't live without - money. Our Money section explains all you need to know about the Hungarian currency, where to get your hands on it, as well as its relative value compared to your own currency.
What kind of weather can I expect in Budapest during May? What is the time difference between England and Hungary? Find the answers to these questions and more in our Weather & Time guide section.
Finally, many visitors to Budapest are here not just for the city's countless cultural sites and exciting day time activities, but to experience Budapest's impressive nightlife. Find out more about Budapest's Bars n Clubs, and while you are reading through our Budapest Guide, take ten minutes to learn some basic Hungarian Phrases and learn to count to ten, in our Budapest Language section.
Of course, if you cannot find the information you are looking for in our guide, then please feel free to Contact Us any time with your questions. We are here to ensure that visitors really get the best out of their trip to Budapest.
And once you have returned from a fantastic few days in Budapest, consider joining us next time in another of our Out There destinations. We currently operate in Riga, Vilnius,Tallinn, Belgrade, Prague, Krakow and the wonderful Ukrainian capital, Kiev.
