If you wonder why so many tourists are stood staring up at the roofs in this part of Riga Old Town, then look more closely and you will spot two black cats on the turret rooftop of the building that houses the Black Cat bar.
These stone sculptures top an art nouveau house, a few steps away from Livu Square. One of the black cats has its rear end and tale facing opposite the Great Guild, which it is said was done as a protest to the members of this tradesmen’s building.
