It's 5:30 in the morning, the music is still jacked, party-people keep on arriving and your flight is due to leave in less than 4 hours... Do I stay, or do I go? This is a question that will be asked by all who take the opportunity to party in riga, and in my experience, the party will go on!! To party in Riga one must be prepared to go big or go home, as the party in Riga is not for the faint of heart nor is for those who don't come with a decent amount of common sense and respect.......
To understand the fundamentals of a good party in Riga, one must look into Rigas past.... You see, the party in Riga has been going on long before the E.U. came in and tried to get their piece of the party in Riga. Latvians have been letting loose and living for the day for as long as most people around here can remember. While many like to believe that they are celebrating their new found European identity, the reality is that the party in Riga is celebrating much more.
Independence in Latvia is relativley new, for instance the Communist party in Riga has only been over for 18 years... So when we talk abouty a party in Riga, we are talking about a city full of people who truly know the definition of feeling free and living for the moment.... and perhaps it is for this reason that it is not always so easy for us foreigners or ”arzemnieks” (to use the local term) to be fully accepted at a party in Riga. Latvians like to hold on to what they see as theirs, and they have fought long and hard for their right to party in Riga, so unless you are coming in to the party in Riga with positive energy and good intentions for all, it may just be better to stay at home.
With that said, the party in Riga is open to all who want to have a good time, let loose, and enjoy what this city has to offer after midnight. As with any other foreign destination, its always important to remember that you are in another country with its own culture, customs and identitiy. When you come to party in Riga, it is most important to treat this subject and these people with common sense and respect. Those who Party in Riga on a regular basis hold these values highly, so it must be said that same will be expected of you when they welcome you to the party in Riga.
Bars, clubs, cafes, casinos, headliner concerts, underground venues, beach parties, and private parties can all be found by those seeking a party in Riga. Riga Out There has created the following top five list of places to party in Riga. Variety is the spice of life, and the party in Riga is spicy indeed, so don' t hesitate to try something new while you fight for your right to party in Riga!
#5: Club Essential- Although this place is starting to lose its edge, the Party in Riga will often spit you out at its front door whether you want to be there or not. Although it can not be faulted for its appealing crowd and quality sounds inside, there are a few things to remember when venturing to this ken and barbie mecca:
Riga Out There travellers tip:
• Do your boozing before you get inside, as prices are inflated like Zimbabwe... one inside, order vodka shots, its cheap and effective.... ☺
• DO NOT ARGUE OR QUESTION SECURITY, they have absolute power and most complaints will be answered with a well trained fist to the kranium .....
#4: Radio Bar- This bars central location (just off Dome Square) and large loungy interior made for dancing and smooth talking give a thumbs up from those who have had the pleasure to party in Riga. Cover charges apply on weekends, but drop dead gorgeous bar staff and a buzzing dance floor make it all worth the extra coin....
#3: SpaceDog - Forget about going home, This place is the epicentre of the Party in Riga and could even put the energizer bunny to the test. Cold war kids cum uber crafty sound wizards have put together Rigas most beatifully derelict bar to allow your restless souls the oppotunity to rock your socks off till well after lunch time. Leave the collared shirt and slacks at home, cause it's time to get down and dirty while tapping the roots of the party in Riga.
#2: Pulkvedim Neviens Neraksta- Despite the fact that the Party in Riga has been centered around this bar for god knows how many years, this place still does what it set out to do in the stone age. A well balanced mix of local yocals and visiting patygoers makes for a legit spot to start off your party in Riga almost every night of the week.Just like the many generations of party goers before you, Thurs/ Sat you pay to play, while other nights you can save the dosh for your hair of the dog the next morning.
#1: Bar Piens (Milk bar)- While there is no gaurantee that you will be allowed in to this bar based on its strict ”face control” as well as slightly biased ”locals only” approach to business, it's always fun to crash a party in Riga. HOWEVER!!! For those proffesional party people visiting Riga who know the benefits of an unneccesarry Thursday, THIS IS THE SPOT!! Tolerable crowds, less security and a mental DJ will get you body rockin before the weekend even kicks off..... Take it from me, this is the place to party in Riga!!!
