Berlin used to be the centre of Jewish life in Germany before the national-socialist regime put a brutal end to this: Jews in Berlin and all over Germany were persecuted and killed in the death camps of the Third Reich.

Today, Berlin is the fastest growing Jewish community of Germany. There are many elements of former and new Jewish life  that can be visited, the famous New Synagogue with the golden dome, the former Jewish Quarter with the touching workshop of the blind saving many lives during Nazism, or the spectacular Jewish Museum built by Daniel Libeskind.

It is also possible to visit the former concentration camp Sachsenhausen which is situated in the town of Oranienburg just north of Berlin.
