Once in a while you have to step back and say to yourself ‘Did that just happen?’ this week has presented a couple of those moments and and I find myself muttering ‘only in Riga’
On Monday night we received an email from Muse tour manager asking if we could help them to arrange a football match on their day off between gigs in Tallinn and Riga, of course we obliged after all we are all big football fans and Muse or not, any chance to a play a match is well recieved.
We arranged the field hire and also a local team to play against the band and crew, it turns out the Muse football team know how to play as reflected in the final score 3-10. This was a fantastic opportunity not just for Travel Out There to be involved with one of the greatest Rock Bands of the last 15 years but also for the local team to get up close and even put in the odd tackle.
The game was played in great spirit and although the score was more attune to Cricket some decent football was on display with Muse keeper and Bass player/striker Chris Wolstenholme both putting in great performances. The following night was the concert, despite his performance on the pitch it was clear to see where Chris’s real talent is as MUSE rocked out a packed Riga Arena. There was a comment made that ‘Stadiums were invented for MUSE concerts ‘ its clear to see why because this is not just a show, but a spectacle with amazing lights, backdrop and of course famous rifts and songs.
The band were due to fly to France that night for a TV performance, however due to bad weather their flight was cancelled. Again MUSE contacted Travel Out There for some tips and advice on where they could go for some drinks and to relax before their re-scheduled flight. A huge part of doing this job is making sure that people have a great time and remember Riga for all the right reasons. Giving advice on places to go and places to avoid is paramount to a successful trip so when we were given this task for MUSE band and crew we were only happy to help.
There is also a level of personal satisfaction that we get when helping our clients have a great time, when this is amplified by helping a band as big as MUSE we can’t help but pat ourselves on the back. At the end of the day however band or crew everyone is the same, drinks with friends in a good environment is always a recipe for success and thats what we strive to provide at Travel Out There.
