Leave Tallinn around 9.30, returning around 20:00
A full day adventure starts straight after breakfast. Your English-speaking guide will pick you up and take you on an enjoyable journey through Eastern-Estonia. En route to the mining museum we will stop off to wander around in the beautiful, untouched nature of eastern Estonia.
The Kohtla Mine museum exposition tells visitors about the work and life of a miner. Once you have put on all the important safety equipment, including helmets and mining shoes, it is time to descend into this deep mine, with around 1.6 kilometres of mine passageways currently open for visitors to explore.
As you are deep underground, you will see layers of combustible shale between layers of limestone. Inside the mine it is possible to walk, take a ride on a miner’s train, or on a sectional car-bicycle. You can visit the explosives storeroom, shale combinations, witness the loading and clearing of trolleys and you can also try to work with a 23kg jackhammer.
We then tuck into a simple miner's lunch before ascending into the daylight, when you will be struck by the brightness and beauty of terra firma. It is then time to return to Tallinn after an unforgettable day out.
